II.a: Students identify and analyze diverse information needs of individuals and communities.
For this assignment, I worked with two other classmates from my Collection Development class to conduct a hypothetical needs assessment of users of a university archives, the first phase of a semester-long assignment culminating in the creation of a collection development policy based upon the findings of the needs assessment.
II.b: Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet users’ needs.
My LibGuide provides a variety of introductory resources to the history of punk rock as a musical, political, and cultural movement. In addition to resources traditionally found in LibGuides, such as databases, books, academic journals, dictionaries, and encylopedias, I also included links to several major digital zine libraries as well as an online zine directory, since zine creation and distribution has been an important part of punk and other subcultures since their origins and are therefore popular as primary sources for the historical study of these subcultures.
II.c: Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.
For this assignment, I used the SNAGIT application to screencast myself while I gave an explanation of how to use the search feature and filters in the database JSTOR to find relevant articles about a specific topic as if I were a reference librarian assisting a patron.
