Goal IV: Theory & Praxis

IV.a: Students will describe applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in library and information science.

For this assignment, I evaluated the article “”To Suddenly Discover Yourself Existing”: Uncovering the Impact of Community Archives”. I situated the research within the existing scholarship on community archives and identified the qualitative research methods and theoretical frameworks the authors of the study used. I also identified the strengths and weakness of the study.

IV.b: Students will identify opportunities for research and develop plans for research in applied settings in library and information science.

This assignment involved working in a group to develop a research project proposal for a topic in LIS. Combining our shared interests in archives and social justice, my groupmates and I crafted a research project to study the experiences and challenges of queer undergraduate students in using their university’s archives.
